Shade and Shell It is a trademark of Zaha Hadid that her works have a mysterious lightness in spite of their size and their bulk. In the case of the Hungerburg cable railway this contrast comes from different surface materials. The concrete of the stations is concluded by a light varnished glass roof shell. The roof only comes into contact with the building at a few points, it seems almost to float. The double-sided curved surfaces of these shells rest weightlessly, as Hungerburg top stage | © Tirol Werbung it were, on the building socles. The buildings themselves are characterized by long, flowing, sinus-shaped concrete balustrades. The resulting dynamism is typical of Hadid‘s art. Bottom stage | © Nordpark 5
