26 Interview How has architecture developed in recent years in the Tirol? Basically, an exciting architectonic scene has grown up in the Tirol, characterized by good minds and good work. Thanks to strong historic foundations and the creative spirit of architects like Josef Lackner and Hubert Prachensky – to name just two of the most outstanding Tirolean architects in the post-war period - a young architectural scene has become established in the Tirol, together with a greater awareness of architecture. Meanwhile there are many successful current examples of new alpine architecture. Hotel Anton by Wolfgang Pöschl, for example, is exemplary of building explicitly for guests. The Tirol has become an exciting architectonic destination. What makes Tirolean architecture so special? Architecture is the most impressive way of satisfying guests‘ need for “new settings“. Tirolean nature in all its magnificence is a scenario in itself, architecture can provide value added and regionally typical contrasts. How do holidaymakers profit from this? Guests want to sense a spirit of place, they want to relax. In the Tirol nature provides the immediate background. When this unique mountain world is enhanced still further by successful architecture, guests experience an intellectual value added that prompts them to return. Good architecture adds character and individuality, the host provides service of a high quality. Together, these constitute a central element of tourist amenities.
