Architecture in the Tirol

20 BTV, CITY FORUM, SPARKASSENPLATZ Urbane Flair Strolling through the Rathauspassage, one comes to Innsbruck‘s most photographed spot after the Golden Roof: the Sparkassendurchgang with its bright, colourful installation by Peter Sandbichler. The revamped Sparkassenplatz with the striking, movable overhang on the main building and with the Wiederin bookshop by Rainer Köberl has increasingly become a modern urban focal point. Then, at the end of the square, the accentuated, but discreet corner of the BTV City Forum catches the eye. It is not the heightening that surprises, but the unusual, moulded composition with its horizontal and vertical building elements in conjunction with the retracted entrance portal and the almost textile-like stone carpet in front. In its interplay with the interior of the building the extensive façade proves to be a reference to the spaciousness of the entire architectonic design. Here architect Heinz Tesar‘s vocabulary becomes clear, the way he charges it with artistic power, defining this by light conduction, the choice of materials and the room arrangement. One block further along is the new Hypo Tirol bank by the architects Schlögl & Süß. The movable slats on the façade serve as protection from the sun and give the entire building its lively appearance. The corner describes a light curve with which it elegantly follows the line of the road. Further info Sparkassendurchgang | © Christian Wührer
