2 Dear Reader, The Tirol is a marvellous place. One might think that high, steep mountains would obstruct the view somewhat and restrict people‘s attitudes. That is not the case, however. Intellectual vision is also manifested in a society‘s artistic expression. Architecture without doubt has a creative claim to make, as an art form it reflects the intellectual status of a society or a people, just like music or the fine arts, film and theatre. Architecture reflects the Zeitgeist, it is subject to trends and fashionable tendencies, yet it also determines these. Surveying the architectonic manifestations in the Tirol under this aspect, one encounters the place and the people from a new side. Recent architecture displays considerable courage and a general readiness to accept what is new. New public and touristic buildings have attracted international media attention. There is acclaim for the Tirol‘s new style. It resonates both with those who use the buildings and those who view them.
