10 BIG 3 and Top of Tyrol Big 3 – a balancing act and a test of courage Two viewing platforms at an altitude of over 3,000 m above sea level – nothing but blue sky above, plenty of fresh air and the glacier below. On the Tiefenbachkogl the platform projects 25 m outdoors. The narrow catwalk is held by two steel cables and the diverging side walls give the illusion of standing on a wide footbridge. On the Gaislachkogl the second platform stands on narrow stilts, just beneath the peak. The filigree structure provides a breathtaking view of the glacier world of the hindmost Ötztal. The final viewpoint is the Schwarze Schneid at 3,340 m. Not a spectacular platform, but it must be approached at a leisurely pace – at over 3,000 m every step is an effort. This is the last stage in the Big 3 rally leading from the bottom of the Giggijochbahn via the three three-thousand-metre peaks to the bottom stage of the Gaislachkogl. A skiing safari with the highlights of the Ötztal Arena, between them the Big 3, 10,000 altitude metres and a distance of 50 kilometres. At an altitude of 3,210 m above sea level the “Top of Tyrol“ peak platform on the Stubai glacier provides a staggering view of the Tirolean mountain world. “Top of Tyrol“ is the watershed between the Stubai and Ötztal valleys, a spot where spectacular natural phenomena can be viewed from close up.
